The Historical Museum of Firefighters and the Italian Red Cross in Manfredonia is the only museum in the world created and managed by a private individual dedicated to this sector. Inaugurated in 2017, it covers an area of 2,500 square meters, housing over 3,000 original artifacts, all collected through a passionate 50-year research by Michele Guerra.
Not just a simple museum, but also a 360-degree cultural production center, where visitors, through technological and historical evolution, and traditions, together with the virtual reality present in the museum, accompanied by a highly experienced guide, are taken on a journey back in time to understand the contexts in which our two rescue organizations operated.
The museum itinerary spans 400 linear meters, illuminated by approximately 500 lights. Some vehicles displayed in the museum have been rented, both in the past and recently, for filming important movies and TV series (A Farewell to Arms, Stardust, Il Commissario Ricciardi).
Inside the museum, there are two play areas to give ample space to children, combining culture with healthy fun, and allowing them to interact with parents and accompanying teachers. It is the only museum of its kind in the world to feature augmented reality consisting of 3 exhibitions, one of which allows visitors to call firefighters who will rescue people trapped in a burning late 19th-century building, in addition to 30 tablets, 15 monitors, and various reconstructions of catastrophic events that saw our heroes intervene, shaping our existence.
The Historical Museum of Firefighters and the Italian Red Cross in Manfredonia is therefore a place to retrace the history of rescue; a perfect space for children, yet also capable of captivating adults.
